IDENTITY COLLAGE
Project Summary
1. In as much detail as possible record the steps it took to create this project in photoshop. Use complete sentences.
I started out with a photograph of myself in front a plain black background, and removed the background using the remove background button. I added a layer with the black and white adjustment. I created a duplicate layer and made it completely purple. I offset the purple layer to create a purple outline but only on one side. To add the jaggered edges, I used the free transform tool. I repeated this for each of the people. If the outline looked a bit off, I used the free transform tool to adjust it. I added a crumbled paper and dirty screen to be blended, increasing texture.

2. Define the terms as they relate to Photoshop: Blend modes, layer masks and adjustment layers. Give a specific example of how you used each of these in your identity collage.
Blend modes essentially blends or mixes layers to add texture. Layer and adjustment masks are additional layers to adjust or edit the base layer nondesctructively. In my collage I used an adjustment layer to make my photos turn into black and white. I used the layer mask to remove the background from my pictures.
3. How does your college represent your identity? What specific images did you use and what do they represent about you?
My collage represents who I am because I have this used vintage style image with dark and purple colors. This style shows that I like vintage and a minimalistic set up. I used images of my family and friends since they are very close to me.
4. What was successful in your project? What was unsuccessful and what would you do differently next time to solve this problem?
The blend modes was very successful in adding the aesthetic I was looking for which elevated my style. However, adding silhouettes was unsuccessful because I could not add them without looking out of place. Next time I would spend a lot more time using adjustment layers and blend modes to make look better and not stand out.
5. Based on the learning target, what level of mastery does your project demonstrate (Exceeds, Meets, Needs Work, minimal understanding). Why do you think? Make sure to provide specific evidence.
My project demonstrates an exceeding level of mastery because everything works well with each other. The purple outlines help bring out my subjects from the gray-toned theme. The gray-toned theme gets even better with the paper and dirty layers as it only adds to the aesthetic. To add on on the aesthetic I added clipping masks to the edges where it seems like the photo is ripping, and placed additional images.
