VISUAL METAPHOR SHIRT DESIGN
1.What is your visual metaphor about?
My visual metaphor is "It's saturn day." It is a play on words and visuals as it is meant to be interpreted as saturday. However, instead of spelling out saturday, I used the planet Saturn.
2. What type of visual metaphor did you create (juxtaposition, fusion, and replacement). What characteristics does your design have that makes it this type of visual metaphor?
I used a replacement metaphor. The image of Saturn replaces the word, making it a replacement metaphor.
3. In as much detail as possible record the steps it took to create this project in illustrator. Use complete sentences. Try to recall as many of the different tools, processes and keyboard commands as possible.
I started off with the background which used the curvature tool. Then I changed the color with a gradient. I then worked on the planet which is actually two circles with different shades of orange. then I created a purple oval with the circle tool. I made the fill empty, but added a thick purple outline. I used the shape builder tool to make the three circles into the planet without having any of them overlap in a bad way. Then I started working on the rocket ship which is made with the curvature pen and pen tool. I added a custom font to get the look of handwriting, and used the eyedropper tool to maintain a consistent purple throughout the project. I added stars with the stars tool which I modified the amount of points and size of the radius. Then I added a visual effect with a blur.

4.What was the easiest and what was the most challenging part of creating your visual metaphor t-shirt design?
The hardest part was coming up with a design. I wanted something simple that appealed to kids. I decided to go with a planet theme. The easiest part was making the background as it was just a simple fade. I wanted a fade over a simple black background because it looked less basic.

5. Based on the learning target, "Apply refined observation and drawing skills in adobe illustrator to create a t-shirt design with a visual metaphor " what level of mastery does your project demonstrate (Exceeds, Meets, Needs Work, minimal understanding). Why do you think so? Make sure to provide specific evidence.
Based on the learning target, I think I exceeds the targe as it is very focused to a specific audience. I wanted a shirt that young kids would wear and be something fun to wear. I chose specific fonts to simulate handwriting, as well as choosing colors that appear friendly.
